Top Tip
You can build the strawberry around an object (covered in cling film), when the clay is partly dry, you can remove the object and the clay should hold the shape.
How to Make
- Firstly, make some clay slip by adding a little water to some soft clay and mix it.
- Then, roll a lump of clay into a ball.
- Shape the clay ball into a strawberry with a narrow bottom and wide, round top.
- Use your thumbs to push in the centre, to create the pot shape.
- Roll out a flat piece of clay.
- For the leaves, cut out triangles from the clay using modelling tools or scissors.
- Score around the edge of the pot, where the leaves would be then, apply some clay slip for the ‘glue’.
- Place the leaves around the top edge. Remember to smooth out the top of the leaves to create a seamless finish.
- Then, use the end of a paint brush to create texture on the pot, where the strawberry seeds would be.
- Wait for the clay to dry overnight.
- Paint the strawberry using acrylic paint.
- Lastly, when the paint is dry, vanish to give a shiny finish.
