Creature Life Cycles

Top Tip

There are so many life cycles that can be created, try dividing up a class into groups and encouraging them to research the cycle they want to create, then drawing out a stage each to complete the finished piece.

How to Make

  1. Choose which life cycle you would like to start with. We have created a ladybird cycle and a butterfly cycle. Lay out your page so it's landscape, on a flat surface, and draw out the first image at the top, using our picture as a guide.
  2. Once you've coloured in the ladybird in felt pens, draw an arrow facing downwards to link to the next stage of the cycle. Draw the second stage and colour, then draw another arrow - as shown. Your images and arrows will eventually form a complete circle to demonstrate the circle of life.
  3. Once you've completed all your images, you can write on your title to finish. You can also label each individual stage to make it clearer. The finished cycle can be used as a learning aid, or displayed on a classroom wall as part of an ongoing project.
  4. As a further activity, students can present their life cycles to the class, talking through the different stages. This can be done individually or as part of a group, with each member of the group talking through a different stage.
